4 Turkish nationals arrested in Greece on suspicion of smuggling migrants


4 Turkish nationals have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling migrants after a ship with practically 100 folks on board was present in hassle off an island close to Athens, Greek authorities mentioned Friday.

The coast guard mentioned that the 4 had been amongst 97 folks on board the boat discovered Thursday northeast of the island of Kea, which lies off the southeastern coast of the Greek capital. The remaining passengers have been 32 males, 22 ladies and 39 minors, the coast guard mentioned.

The passengers, who have been transported to the Greek mainland by a coast guard vessel, have been from Egypt, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Israel and Iraq, the coast guard mentioned. The boat had set sail from Izmir in Turkey and had been certain for Italy, with the migrants paying smugglers in Turkey 8,000 euros every for the journey.
