L.A. sheriff’s sergeant charged with illegally firing gun



A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant was charged Tuesday with unlawfully firing his handgun in his yard, hitting a tv and his neighbor’s home, Dist. Atty. George Gascón introduced.

Joel Nebel, 55, who was a sergeant on the time of the July 28, 2021, taking pictures, faces a felony rely of discharging a fireman with gross negligence. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 7 in downtown Los Angeles, court docket data present.

Nebel was off responsibility when he fired a number of rounds from his handgun, prosecutors stated. One spherical struck his tv and one other struck the neighbor’s residence, however nobody was injured, officers stated.

The incident triggered an investigation by the Sheriff’s Division’s Inside Legal Investigations Bureau, officers stated. Just a few days later, he was arrested by sheriff’s investigators at his Santa Clarita Valley residence, in response to sheriff’s arrest data.

With the investigation pending, Nebel retired from the division in March. He served in recent times as a supervisor in Santa Clarita, the division stated in a press release.
