Protests have erupted in Wuhan, China, over the federal government’s strict COVID measures in a uncommon present of defiance, prompting U.S. Senators on Friday to warn Beijing towards any violent crackdowns.

In a bipartisan letter to China’s Washington ambassador, Qin Gang, a bunch 42 Senators warned China that they had been “carefully” watching Beijing’s response to the unrest and stated that any violent crackdown on the protestors would trigger “extraordinary harm” to the U.S.-China relationship.
