Pittsburgh International Airport passenger arrested after threatening to use bomb: police


A bomb menace Wednesday afternoon at Pittsburgh Worldwide Airport (PIT) resulted in an arrest, in response to police.

Allegheny County police mentioned Hossein Dehnavifard, a 37-year-old Iranian nationwide, was arrested after he allegedly claimed to be carrying a bomb in his baggage after he was refused entry on his American Airways flight. He was arrested shortly after 4:30 p.m.

He faces costs of terroristic threats and a menace to make use of weapons of mass destruction, the police division mentioned in a press release.

No explosives have been present in his possession, authorities confirmed.

The incident began when Dehnavifard arrived late for his flight to Philadelphia and airport employees refused to permit him to board, police mentioned.

He then allegedly informed the American Airways gate brokers that his baggage contained a bomb. At the least two airline staff confirmed listening to the remark to the police.

The suspect was then taken into custody.

Police mentioned greater than 100 passengers on American Airways flight 1862 have been deboarded and the B-concourse was partially closed. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, was en path to Philadelphia.

“The plane was searched by Allegheny County Law enforcement officials and FBI brokers. The Allegheny County Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Crew and EOD Ok-9 handlers utilized police Ok-9s educated within the detection of explosive odor in addition to x-ray machines to look the plane and baggage on board. Officers didn’t find a menace on the plane or baggage, together with the 2 checked baggage belonging to Dehnavifard,” Allegheny County police mentioned.

The FBI and the Transportation Safety Administration have joined within the investigation. TSA may additionally impose a civil penalty, police mentioned.

Dehnavifard was taken to the Allegheny County Jail for arraignment.
