U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner has arrived again in the US, touchdown at San Antonio’s Lackland Air Drive Base in Texas early Friday morning.
Griner, who was free of Russian detention on Thursday in a high-profile prisoner swap, landed at roughly 3 a.m. native time.
She was then transferred to a medical facility.
Friday is the primary time Griner has set foot within the U.S. since she was incarcerated by Russia 10 months in the past. Her freedom adopted months of negotiations between Washington and Moscow.

Griner was launched in a prisoner swap with Russia in trade for arms seller Viktor Bout, who is called the “Service provider of Dying.”
“She’s protected, she’s on a airplane, she’s on her manner house,” Biden mentioned on Thursday.

The president made the announcement from the White Home accompanied by Griner’s spouse, Cherelle, and administration officers.
The deal was finalized after Russia confirmed it was unwilling to free U.S. citizen Paul Whelan, a Marine and Iraqi struggle veteran Russia arrested in 2018 for allegedly conducting intelligence work, the White Home mentioned. Whelan was convicted in 2020.
“This was not a selection for us on which American to carry house. It was a selection between bringing house one American or none,” mentioned White Home press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday.
The trade induced some backlash as Bout was beforehand convicted of promoting weapons used within the killing of People.

Jean-Pierre answered, “The president felt an ethical obligation to carry Brittney house. There was a possibility to do this, and it was both Brittney or nobody in any respect, and we’re not going to apologize for that.”
Bout has already returned to Russia as Russian TV confirmed him strolling off a airplane on a snow-covered tarmac in Moscow.
His mom and spouse have been there to greet him.
