A bunch of College of Chicago college students are persevering with their marketing campaign for his or her college to pay over $1 billion in reparations to Chicago’s South Aspect.
College of Chicago Towards Displacement (UCAD), an anti-gentrification scholar membership, hosted an open home occasion on Thursday.

In February, the membership had requested for $1 billion in reparations in grant funding for “long-term true reasonably priced housing” from the college’s administration. The group believes the cash needs to be given to town’s South Aspect over 20 years to forestall displacement.
“The College exists as a legacy of chattel slavery,” UCAD’s Chicago Maroon op-ed learn. “Furthermore, it has been an energetic participant in segregation, redlining, and supporting developments that work to isolate the College from its neighbors and put Southsiders vulnerable to displacement from their properties.”

The group additionally advocated for a $20 million annual fund for rental help, in addition to increasing low-income housing and supporting STEM packages at native colleges.

A College of Chicago spokesperson informed Fox Information Digital in February that the college aids Chicago’s South Aspect by supporting companies, providing free school readiness packages and using over 13,000 Chicago residents.
